Kooks 1 7/8-inch long-tube headers, 3-inch Y-pipe, and high flow cats are unique to this project. However, the QTP electric cutout and GMMG cat-back were such a perfect combo on the ZL1s that GMMG owner Matt Murphy decided to implement them here as well.

With the help of GMMG body man Keith Lanning, Ron did some custom body work such as filling in the antenna hole and extending the wheel houses by 2.5 inches. Unlike the regular Dick Harrell cars, Ron required the stock .75-inch lip to squeeze in the 28x10.5-inch slicks. As a drag car, it also deviates from the GMMG exhaust setup by using a set of Kooks 1 3/4-1 7/8 stepped race headers to empty directly to the atmosphere.

Interiors are kept mostly stock aside from the Dick Harrell badges, floormats, white gauge faces, and suede seat inserts. Six speed cars also have a shortened stick on the stock shifter with a Hurst white ball knob. The owner of this car, Valerie Harrell (daughter of Dick Harrell), also opted for the Wolfe roll cage for safety and NHRA compliance.

GMMG moved all of its bodywork in-house to assure all 30 cars would be fitted properly with the new panels and repainted in a timely fashion. Murphy says they churn out about one car per month, which means they should be finished by the time you read this. Matt designed the graphics based upon a modern interpretation of Dick's 1970 Funny Car, and when he consulted Valerie, she assured him that the use of carbon fiber accents were very much in the spirit of her father's lust for new technology. Painting was dependent upon the customer and the base color, however, in the case of this car Valerie had family friend Bill Carter apply a custom Butterscotch Orange. Along with Matt Berger's green Camaro, this is one of only two cars not painted by GMMG.

Just like production cars such as Valerie's, Ron went with the Strange 12-bolt rear except that he uses 35-spline axles instead of 33-spline, 4.88 gears instead of 4.10s, and a spool rather than a posi.

Bogart Pro-Stars and Mickey Thompson skinnies help shed some front end weight along with a manual steering rack and Strange drag brakes.

While he chose to leave Dick Harrell's nickname "Mr. Chevrolet" off the spoiler, Ron did put it on this custom seat cover along with his signature. Even though it is a drag car, Ron worked hard to stay as faithful to the production car as possible. The output for the 347-cube motor is right on par with the Phase III 427s at 630 hp (or 507 hp at the wheels through a stout driveline). Except in a 2,920-pound racecar with a transbrake and plenty of traction, this equals 1.36 60-ft times and a 9.72 ET at 137 mph. These kinds of time slips require a spec Wolfe roll cage and a Kirkey racing seat.

To fill out those enlarged fenders on the widebody kit, GMMG chose the classy Fikse Profil 13s measuring a boggling 18x11 front and 18x12 rear. When mated to your choice of either Michelin Pilot 295/35ZR18 and 335/30ZR18 or BFG G-Force and drag radial combo that makes for one enormous contact patch. As with the ZL1s, GMMG also upgrades the front brakes to Corvette specs.

GMMG was not shy about placing the Dick Harrell name all over its latest supercar, which is just fine by anyone who ever knew Dick. A former technician and race team member from '68-69 as well as family friend, Dave Libby, said the car was "a fitting tribute that I know Dick would have been proud of. It's tasteful and not garish ... it's the best-looking Camaro I've ever seen. It's incredible to have a car like this that can run in the 10s with air conditioning, and is drivable with reasonable gas mileage

Though Ron tries to keep the interior stock appearing, he has stripped weight wherever possible. HVAC controls are gone as are the radio, rear and passenger seats. The center console as you can see is still intact, which took quite a bit of modifying to allow the use of a B&M Pro Ratchet shifter.

Dick Harrell was one of the first people to start shoehorning 427s into Camaros back in the late '60s (before the introduction of the ZL1), so it is all the more fitting that this C5R-derived 427ci LS1-powered Camaro bears his name. All Dick Harrell Edition cars also bare the signatures of Harrell's crack staff from his shops in St. Louis and Kansas City. Similar to GMMG's ZL1s, the Harrell Edition cars also boast ported Holley intakes, Whisper carbon fiber airlids, air conditioning, and full emissions controls. While the big 244/248 duration cam tends to run a bit dirty, the Camaros will still pass the emissions readiness test. The objective was not only creating one of the baddest Chevys ever made, but also to create a drivable, livable car that wouldn't just sit in the garage.

Unlike the production Dick Harrell cars, Ron's pilot car has a painted FAST intake, Nick Williams 90mm throttle body, Futral Motorsports-built solid roller 347, and runs off a Speed Density tune. The custom hand-ported LS6 heads are from Meaux Racing in Abbeville, La., which Futral uses on all its serious builds
